A CHEESE COMPILATION

"NEARSIGHTED RECORDS 001"

okay, okay. so this "webgoo" is focused for and towards the era of old home tape / mystery that lurks in the closets and garbage dumps. i tried my friends, i tried to write something worthwhile a few weeks back, but i found it lame...and some have said to keep on keeping on, and like old stone mountain i will. so without hesitation let me give forth one of the first you should seek out. i wish i had some sort of program to upload songs from said release, but i do not. i am inept in all of this sort of hullaboloo. so let me just say this old cassette compilation seeks your heart. * * how can it be found? i have no real clue. nearsighted records was operated by one : christie gorman : the proprietor of "nearsighted magazine" : a zine which i was really fond of. always great interviews, and ads for seeking out what it was ya was looking for. the main premise centered around "having glasses" and how that made one not inferior. i myself never had glasses, but for some reason, always wanted them.

throughout this small tape you get some of the best unsung heroes of cassette culture. everything from bottle clang abuse and cheap casio solos to real deal songs that should have gone someplace other than the mystery-sphere.

one c. mcalsiter starts it off, with the song "wearing glasses" to speak forth the importance and the need of the object. and dont forget it! it continues through with many unheard pop songs, and dismantled hash of old hometape splendor. believe me! yak brigades "pinball machine" is so so so heart-achingly good. it is basically a coy johnny horton : "ballad of new orleans" but rightfully placed into the new era. perfection. with hiss and howls all around. neener is one young artist from so long ago, that used to record her songs onto karaoke machines. blown out strum that feels just as hearty as so long ago.

everything is the sort of "honesty" that is openly welcomed. it might not be all hits, yet it brings forth the "what music should be about" sort of deal. well worn songs belted out into recorder. mistakes aplenty, for sure, but this is not destined for anyone but yourself.

the great george willard starts off side two, with another "glasses" song, entitled "nearsighted" - a grand mush mash of a song with herky jerky gut-tar all around, and circling. orange cake mix - the great jim rao, gives a nice snippet of a summer feeling, though brief, quite worthwhile. caleb fraid  gives a strange blues belief / bass heavy workout entitled "imperfect circle" an always sort of mystery, trying to seek meaning in his song. a cryptic half breed of sound. part old timey / part new timey / part no timey. edith presler closes it out with a  rock un roll song akin to buying new dough at the bakery. cheaped out home-fi beauty that sums up, i guess everything in one small song. oh oh oh and soooo...

with the sing song you also get oddities and song from the likes of : wham-o, pompistadores, bj kramp, callisto, girl friday, quicksand mucas love triangle, miel, locash, little jupiter, and magnolias milan.

all in - a pretty well rounded compilation of who-is-what-was-and-is...need to be sought. if anyone has good way to transfer song to be put on blog, let me know, i will entrust you with tapes to transfer so others can hear these long out of print and dead titles.

more soon.
